Another quick one today. Out of the 27 eggs retrieved yesterday, 17 of them were mature enough to fertilize. Out of the 17 fertilized, 13 of them survived that process and are now our growing embryos!
For some, this number may seem low - we started off with 50 follicles and are down to just 13!? The attrition rate for all of these phases is very high so we feel grateful to have started off with a high number so we have some buffer as we get closer to the actual number of embryos that we will end up with when all is said and done.
For others, this number may seem high - 13 babies?!? Again, the attrition rate is very high and we still need our embryos to survive to "blastocyst phase" which will be 5-6 days after fertilization. We will feel very lucky to have 6-7 make it to day 5 and even then, the odds of pregnancy could only be 30-50% which would be 2-3 babies who make it to live birth.
Right now we are just praying for SOME of the embryos to survive and trusting God that the right number will make it to day 5. We will get an update on our little embryos tomorrow (day 2) and on Wednesday (day 5) and Thursday (day 6, if needed).
Jess is healing pretty well. So far, no concerning signs of overstimulating for which we are very grateful. She is doing her best to take it easy and rest and counting down the days until we can transfer one of these embryos.
"Nurse Doad" has been at the top of his game and has done an excellent job at taking care of his patient. ;)
Prayer Requests:
1. Right now our biggest request is that our babies would survive and grow!
2. Please pray for trust in the Lord and that we would be at peace with whatever the outcome - 13 embryos or 1 or zero.
3. Jess has made a new friend at the doctor's office who is going through IVF without much support. They are getting together for coffee soon and Jess would appreciate prayer for wisdom and guidance as she seeks to grow that relationship and encourage someone who does not have the same support system that we have.
Hello friends and family, It's official! We're having a baby!!! Meet our little "squudge": We had our first OB ultrasound this morning and confirmed that baby is indeed growing in the right place, sized perfectly for his/her gestational age, and we even got to see a tiny heartbeat flicker on the screen! We know that there is still a long way to go, but we are feeling very hopeful and optimistic. This is the first time we've seen a heartbeat with any of our pregnancies. It has been a really great day. Our next appointment is in two weeks and if all goes well we will "graduate" from the fertility center! Prayer Requests: 1. Praise! We are pregnant! We are so overjoyed and thankful for this little life. 2. Pray that our baby would continue to grow strong and healthy. 3. Please pray for peace and trust in God. Because of our past losses, it is hard not to brace for bad news at each appoi...
Hello friends and family, Thank you for faithfully praying for us even during the lack of updates the past week or so. While not much has changed in our fertility status, it has been quite a roller coaster of emotions lately. We were quite happy to hear that we ended up with a total of 6 embryos to freeze for future cycles. Though we wish all of our embryos could have made it, six is a really great number for the average cycle and Jess is relieved that she will not have to go through this process 13 more times. We are in a bit of a waiting period right now. Jess is on estrogen to prepare her body for transfer and we will find out at our next appointment if she is ready to start injections again. Once the injections are started, we will then receive our official transfer date. Then we will get to wait some more and pray as hard as we can that the embryo implants and results in a healthy pregnancy. Prayer Requests: The past couple of...
Hello friends and family, We know you've all been waiting so patiently and eagerly with us as we await the results of our blood test! So far it is good news! For our first blood test, the doctor told us that they are happy with any number over 150... Jess's number was 2008! Well over what we even dared to pray for. This means that the embryo did indeed implant and now we are praying that it is in the correct spot and growing!! Unfortunately, that part won't be confirmed until next week, so the waiting continues just a little longer until we feel like we can really believe this is happening. However, we are so encouraged that everything seems to be going in the right direction so far. The wait until next week seems agonizingly long, but we are hopeful and trying to be as patient as possible. We are praying that next week we get to send you all the message that we have been waiting to share with you for over 5 years! Prayer ...
